Green-field Design

If you've never set up a web site before then we can take the pain and complexity out of the process, making the whole operation manageable and efficient, with the minimum of stress all round.

We're happy to start from a full specification or maybe just a few ideas scribbled down on the back on an envelope. We'll help you work out the initial specification then design the overall structure and layout so that the basics are in place, ready for the main site content.

A good example of a Green field site is Newcastle Astronomical Society. We put this site together for the society in 2005 and it has been widely praised for its clear, uncomplicated design.

Brown-field design

We're happy to take an existing site and give it a facelift so that it looks fresh, attractive and, above all, up-to-date. Often, all it takes is a few minor changes to the styling to give a site a new lease of life. Sometimes, a more drastic overhaul is required, where major changes to the structure and organisation of the site is necessary.

In January 2008, the Freemen of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne asked us to give their site a major facelift. We revised the menus and layout to make the site more user friendly and easier to navigate. We restructured many of the text-heavy sections so that they're easier to read, adding images to break up the rather dense and complicated feel. We also added contact forms and support for the new magazine so that members of the public can find out more about the Freemen of the city and the work the do in conserving the city's green spaces.

Testing, Site Verification and Maintenance

As a web site grows and its complexity rises, you need to be sure that the quality of the information provided is consistently high. Many surveys indicate that customers won't buy from a site with broken links, poor spelling and clumsy design. They look and feel unprofessional and customers will head elsewhere. We will examine your site, look for all of the typical faults such as poor spelling and grammar and broken links and then tell you how to fix it.

We'll take care of your current site, updating the code and content so that it is up-to-specification with modern internet W3C standards and will work properly with the majority of browsers that are popular today. Prices are very reasonable and are matched to the complexity of the site.

Hosting

If you've never had a web site before and you want to move into the digital age then we can help. We can look at what you want to achieve with your web site and find a hosting service to match your current and future needs. We'll also take care of the domain name registration process and even park away a domain name until you're ready to use it.

We follow a strict design process, which begins with an initial consultation to discuss your basic requirements. Every job is different. Every job has it's quirks and oddities. We need to know about these in advance. Essentially, this meeting is designed to see if both parties are able to work together in a mutually beneficial and productive environment. If this can be achieved, then we can do business.

Designing web pages is a two-way process. Nobody knows your business like you do. Nobody else can describe what you do and how you do it better than you. You're the boss. We take your ideas and turn them into something that will tell your customers what they want to know and them help drive them towards buying from you, rather than from your competition. This means that we rely on you to provide the copy for the site, in a format that we can both understand. It's your message, not ours. We can work with your design either as a fully formed, fully developed specification or, equally, just something scribbled on the back of an envelope. The critical issue is that you need to have some ideas to help us get the ball rolling.

Finally, we prefer to work in a stress-free environment. Timescales should be realistic, goals and measureables should be achievable. Input = Output.
